Paul Simon, who was criticized for recording parts of his album “Graceland” in South Africa, was removed Monday from a list of artists who have broken the United Nations cultural boycott against the country. “Mr. Simon sent us a letter promising he would not play in South Africa, and we have taken his name off the register,” said Amer Araim, senior political adviser for the U.N. Special Committee Against Apartheid. “Graceland” had sold more than 4 million copies and is nominated for four Grammy awards, including album of the year.
