L.A. Detectives Will Check Washington Killings

Two detectives from Los Angeles’ Southside Serial Killer Task Force will travel to Washington this weekend to compare notes with authorities there on a series of killings of six young black women in the past several months, police said Tuesday.
“We want to check to see if there are any similarities, anything that might help us here,” said LAPD spokesman Cmdr. William Booth.
District of Columbia police said they have arrested a suspect, Alton Best, 30, in connection with one of the killings. Authorities in Prince Georges County, Md., want to question Best about the other five slayings. It has not been determined whether Best has any connection to the Los Angeles area where, since 1983, a killer or killers have strangled 17 women, all but two of whom were black.
