An 8-year-old Mira Mesa boy was killed by a car Saturday afternoon when he tried to run across a South San Diego street to play in a basketball game, San Diego police said.
Estevan J. Quintana, 8, of the 10200 block of Maya Linda Road in Mira Mesa, suffered massive injuries when he was struck by a car in the 6300 block of Potomac Street about 3 p.m., Deputy Coroner Everett Mauger said. He was pronounced dead a half hour later at Paradise Valley Hospital.
The boy attended Walker Elementary School, according to Mauger.
Police said a basketball game had been going on in a neighborhood driveway and Quintana apparently wanted to play in it.
Mauger said the driver of the car was not cited.
