Local News in Brief : 3.3 Quake Fails to Jolt Homes Near Newhall

A small earthquake that seemed to be noticed only by seismometers shook an area six miles east of Newhall Saturday morning, authorities said.
The temblor, measuring 3.3 on the Richter scale, struck at 8:50 a.m., said Robert Finn, a spokesman for California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, which detected the tremor.
Police and fire departments in the region received no reports of damage or calls indicating that the tremor was felt by residents.
