Two Homes Lost in Lake Elsinore Fire

LAKE ELSINORE — Two homes were destroyed as Santa Ana winds spread fire over 280 acres of brush on a mountain Saturday, authorities said.
Two hundred firefighters battled to control the blaze, which burned from the lake in a northwesterly direction up a mountain, Riverside County Fire Department Capt. Clarence Homer said. No injuries were reported. Erratic winds hampered the firefighting effort, he said.
The Highway Patrol closed the Ortega Highway, the major east-west route from southern Orange County to Riverside County, because of the fire.
Another blaze swept through an acre of brush in Angeles National Forest above La Canada Flintridge as Los Angeles County firefighters fought to contain it. Cause of the blaze in Millard Canyon was not known, said fire Capt. Greg Bates. No structures were threatened.
