Three men accused of soliciting and receiving about $50,000 in kickbacks for referring Medicare work to a particular medical laboratory were convicted on multiple counts in Los Angeles federal court. The defendants, David Smushkevich, 36, of Encino; Yan Kats, 39, of Beverly Hills, and Robert Keith Sheppard, 48, of Palos Verdes Estates, face up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine on each count.
