More on the “Amerika” front: Politically minded actor Ed Asner said that the upcoming ABC-TV mini-series will “make the Russians even greater enemies.” He was the main attraction at Thursday’s opening news conference for the Monterey Film Festival. Asner praised the new Vietnam war film “Platoon” as a great anti-war war movie that rebuffs “Rambo” films. But the former Screen Actors Guild president added, “On the other hand, here is ABC, embarking on what must be one of the greatest regressions in the world by the mini-series ‘Amerika.’ We can see the quality of that by Chrysler pulling out of it (as a sponsor).”
