Sino-Soviet Border Talks Begin

MOSCOW — Chinese and Soviet negotiators resumed discussions today on a longstanding dispute over their 4,500-mile border, nine years after the last effort collapsed.
The official media maintained a news blackout on the meeting, but diplomatic sources said the talks opened on schedule and were expected to last two weeks. Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Qian Qichen flew to Moscow from Peking, where the official media reported there is Chinese enthusiasm for the negotiations.
