Columbia Records has issued a new Columbia Jazz Masterpieces series featuring digitally remastered editions of recordings from the label’s greatest jazz artists, including Louis Armstrong, Miles Davis, Benny Goodman and Billie Holiday. The initial 12 releases include Goodman’s historic January 1937 Carnegie Hall concert, Davis’ “Sketches of Spain,” “Kind of Blue,” “In a Silent Way” and “Bitches Brew” albums, Dave Brubeck’s pioneering time signature album “Time Out,” and the first side-by-side recording session of the Duke Ellington and Count Basie orchestras. The set is supplemented by a sampler featuring 10 highlight tracks.
