New Owner to Close SCW; All 60 Workers Losing Jobs

SCW Inc., a Chatsworth maker of art and graphics for the newspaper industry, will be shut down by March 1 and all 60 workers will lose their jobs, the company’s new owner said.
SCW, formerly a unit of Scripps Howard, was sold to Metro Associated Services Inc. of New York City, which is also in the newspaper graphics business. Terms weren’t disclosed, nor were SCW’s sales, but Metro said its sales exceed $10 million a year. Both companies are privately held.
Metro chairman E. Richard Zimmerman said it basically bought SCW for its customer base. Those customers will soon receive Metro graphics rather than SCW’s.
