A group of people helped police capture one of two men suspected in an alleged rape and sexual assault on two teen-age girls at the beach, police reported Monday.
People near the beach at 11th Street and Pacific Coast Highway detained David B. Lavy, 25, of Colton until Huntington Beach police arrived about 7:45 p.m. Sunday, Police Sgt. W.C. Stuart said.
Lavy was arrested on suspicion of rape and was being held in the city jail in lieu of $50,000 bond, Stuart said.
Five minutes earlier and about two blocks away, police arrested Rick K. Real, 27, of Weiser, Ida., on suspicion of sexual battery. Real also was being held in the Huntington Beach jail in lieu of $10,000 bond.
The alleged victims, whose names were withheld, are 17 and 18 years old. Stuart said the women met the men somewhere earlier in the day and went with them to the beach, where the alleged assaults took place.
