The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said it will ask the district attorney’s office to issue felony charges against a veteran sheriff’s deputy suspected of having tampered with a computer to erase traffic citations issued to his friends. A sheriff’s spokesman said Deputy Hans Weg, 40, a member of the department for 16 years, has been under suspension and on paid leave since Jan. 22, while the case against him was under investigation. The spokesman declined to discuss details of the investigation, but said felony charges of conspiracy to obstruct justice and destruction of official documents will be sought today, along with a misdemeanor charge of unauthorized use of a departmental computer.
