Werner Guenther of Switzerland set a world indoor record for the shotput with a mark of 73 feet 1/2 inch in the Swiss track and field meet in Magglingen.
Guenther broke the record of 72-8 set by Ulf Timmerman of East Germany two years ago. Guenther, Timmerman and East Germany’s Ulf Beyer, who holds the outdoor record of 74-3 1/2, are expected to compete in the European championship meet Feb. 21-22 in Lievin, France.
