Cmdr. Lawrence Binkley, a 26-year veteran of the Los Angeles Police Department, was named police chief of Long Beach. The announcement was made by current Los Angeles County Chief Administrative Officer James Hankla, who takes over as Long Beach city manager on March 1, the same day Binkley will succeed Police Chief Charles Usfery, who retired late last year. Binkley, 46, currently oversees the department’s Communications Division.
