Break in Main Floods Homes in Point Loma

A water main break Friday in Point Loma left several houses flooded and caused severe traffic congestion during rush hour, city Water Utilities Department officials reported.
Two eight-inch lines at Addison and Evergreen streets ruptured at 3:30 p.m., flooding several houses and jamming traffic on nearby Rosecrans Street. The water was shut off by early evening, but a four-square-block area along Evergreen and Canon Street was to be without water overnight.
Yvonne Rehg, a department spokeswoman, said Friday night that city workers predicted it would take 12 more hours to repair the break. She said the lines apparently were weak and had ruptured during utility work in the area.
