A Cypress College student was wounded early Monday morning when shots were fired at him from a passing car, La Palma police said.
Ernest Moran, 20, of Buena Park, was reported in fair condition at Memorial Medical Center of Long Beach with wounds of his chest and arm.
Police said Moran told them he was walking southbound on Walker Street, approaching Marview Drive, about 1:50 a.m. when he saw a white or tan compact sedan make a left turn from Marview Drive onto Walker Street.
Moran said he “heard two or three shots and felt his legs go numb,” police dispatcher Laura Patrick said. He fell to the ground and called out for help but was then able to get up and walk to the La Palma police headquarters, about 200 yards away.
Moran was initially treated there for the wounds, which appeared to have been made by a small-caliber gun, Patrick said. He then taken to the hospital.
According to Sgt. Jim Wells, who said the victim is not a member of a gang, there are no suspects, and the investigation is continuing.
