MANAGUA, Nicaragua — Three Nicaraguan cities were without energy or water Tuesday after U.S.-backed contras blew up an electricity pylon, the official Radio Sandino said.
The pylon was near the city of La Trinidad in the northern Matagalpa province. Two other northern cities, Esteli and Ocotal, were also affected.
Water supplies were cut off because the attack cut power to electric water pumps, the radio said.
