Profit-sharing payments will total at least $370 million, or an average check of more than $2,100 per eligible employee. Ford earned nearly $3.3 billion in 1986, surpassing industry leader General Motors in earnings for the first time since 1924. Ford said it believed that the 1986 profit-sharing payout per employee will be the largest by any major U.S. corporation under a union-negotiated profit-sharing plan.
