Orange County College Roundup : Oberdank Helps UCI Beat USIU

UC Irvine scored eight runs in the seventh inning and defeated United States International University, 11-6, Wednesday in a nonconference baseball game at San Diego.
A walk, a single and a fielder’s choice loaded the bases with nobody out for UC Irvine in the seventh inning. Second baseman Joe Oberdank followed with a two-run double to give the Anteaters a 5-4 lead. Oberdank’s double was followed by five consecutive singles.
Oberdank went 3 for 5 with three RBIs, and designated hitter Mike Fay went 4 for 5 with one RBI to lead UCI (5-7). Bob Esquerra went 2 for 4 with one RBI to pace USIU (5-6).
Winning pitcher Gabby Rodriguez (3-0) allowed four runs on seven hits. He struck out five.
In other nonconference baseball games:
Cal State Dominguez Hills 16, SCC 3--Dominguez scored 12 runs in the fourth inning and won easily at home. Dominguez had nine hits in the fourth, and scored seven runs before SCC (1-6) could get an out. SCC’s Josh Johnson hit a bases-empty home run in the third inning.
In mens’ tennis:
Chapman 7, Cal State Northridge 2--Chapman (2-0, 3-2) won five of six singles matches to win this California Collegiate Athletic Assn. match at Northridge.
