Canadian authorities have received papers from the U.S. Justice Department requesting the extradition of Charles Ng, accused in the murder of 12 people in California. Ng, 26, is serving a 4 1/2-year sentence at a maximum security prison in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, after being convicted in December, 1985, of armed robbery, aggravated assault and unlawful use of a firearm in a bungled shoplifting attempt at a department store in Calgary, Alberta. The extradition papers, prepared by U.S. authorities last year, were delivered to the External Affairs Department in Ottawa. Ng’s lawyers in Calgary said that they intend to fight the extradition unless the United States guarantees that Ng will not face the California death penalty.
