While watching “Charles in Charge” with my 8-year-old daughter, I swiftly realized that the men have all the answers, mostly good ol’ Charles, and the girls are regulated to stereotypes along with the mother, as they trot off shopping on an hourly basis. In the shows we have watched, not once did the females come up with any intelligent thoughts or conclusions themselves. What is the point of this show anyway? I don’t have that answer, but I do know that every time we get a progressive show like “Moonlighting” or “St. Elsewhere” or even “The Cosby Show,” the television industry takes two steps backward to the early ‘60s and presents us with stupidity. “Charles in Charge” fits into that category along with cartoons like “Heathcliff,” “G.I. Joe,” “Gobots” and God knows what else.
