The jury in the “pizza connection” Mafia heroin trial in New York City began its first full day of deliberations since a juror was removed because of death threats against her family. The 11 jurors, who have been sequestered since one defendant was gunned down and left paralyzed Feb. 11, will decide the fate of the 19 men charged with smuggling heroin through pizza parlors. One previous defendant was bludgeoned to death and two pleaded guilty to lesser charges. The paralyzed man is still a defendant but remains hospitalized. Six men have been arrested in the shooting.
