Canyons Eliminated From JC Regional Basketball Playoffs

College of the Canyons made a quick exit from the Southern California junior college regional basketball tournament Saturday night, losing to Orange Coast, 99-63, in the first round game at Orange Coast.
Canyons (17-15), seeded 21st in the tournament, was no match for 12th-seeded Orange Coast on the boards. The Cougars were out-rebounded, 49-36, and had only eight offensive rebounds. Orange Coast had 12.
Canyons needed rebounds desperately because the Cougars made only 40% of their field-goal attempts. Orange Coast, led by Mike Kelly with 26 points, shot 54%. Chuck McGavran added 17 points for Orange Coast (23-9).
Ron Stapp scored 16 points and Kevin Honaker added 11 for Canyons, which trailed, 48-31, at halftime.
