Carla Beurskens of the Netherlands, running into head winds and sleet, won an international women’s marathon at Nagoya, Japan.

The 35-year-old Beurskens, winner of the 1986 Honolulu Marathon and runner-up in the 1986 Boston Marathon, took the lead from Denmark’s Kersii Jakobsen after 10 miles and finished in 2:28:27 seconds, breaking the one-year-old meet record of East German Katrin Doerre by 1:06.

Japan’s Kazue Kojima, 21, running her first marathon, was second in 2:34:59, while Jakobsen was third in 2:35:37.
