The World : Kurds’ Raid Kills 8 Turks
Kurdish guerrillas raided a village in southeastern Turkey near the Syrian border, killing six children and two adults, the Turkish Interior Ministry reported. It said the assailants fired automatic weapons and hurled hand grenades at two homes in the village of Acikyol. The Foreign Ministry said it called in Syria’s ambassador to Ankara after the incident and asked Syria to tighten border security. The raid followed last week’s Turkish air force bombings of suspected Kurdish camps in northern Iraq. The rebels want to set up an independent Kurdish state in eastern and southeastern Turkey.
