Police in San Jose found two men and a woman dead in what they believe was a double murder and suicide. A newspaper delivery boy called officers to a quiet, middle-class neighborhood where he had found the woman’s body lying in the street with a knife protruding from her neck. Investigators found a man bludgeoned to death in a house nearby, and another man shot to death in the backyard next door. None of the dead was identified, but detectives said the woman had recently obtained a restraining order to prevent her estranged husband from annoying her. They theorized that the husband had first beaten the neighbor to death, then forced his way into his own home and fatally stabbed his wife. Afterward, they said, he evidently took his own life. Nonetheless, detectives said the investigation is continuing.
