Father Casimir Paulsen, a Detroit missionary freed after 12 weeks of detention in a South African homeland, said he had been stripped naked, his hands tied and his head forced into a water-filled bag during questioning. He was arrested Dec. 17 by security officials of South Africa’s nominally independent black tribal homeland of Transkei and accused of harboring black nationalist guerrillas. Paulsen, 51, a missionary of the Roman Catholic Marianhill Order who had been in Transkei since 1978, said after arriving in Zambia from Transkei that no specific charges were leveled against him.
