A Clovis man drowned when he became trapped in a pickup truck after it crashed into the Dry Creek Canal near Fresno. Police said Robert Reser, 68, was a passenger in the truck driven by William Stewart, 73, of Fresno, when it went out of control on a turn and plunged into the canal. Stewart was able to get out of the truck but Reser was trapped. Police and firefighters tried several times to get to the trapped man but were unable to reach him because of the rapid movement of the water. A tow truck finally pulled the vehicle out of the water and Reser’s body was found inside. Police said they arrested Stewart on suspicion of felony drunken driving and vehicular manslaughter.
