A man who stabbed another man on a Venice sidewalk was shot and killed by police officers as he approached them with a bloody knife in his hand, police said. The knife-wielding man apparently lived in the neighborhood but has not been positively identified. The victim of the knife attack, Cid Preston, 29, of Venice was in critical but stable condition at Santa Monica Medical Center, Lt. William Hall said. Under-cover narcotics officers working the Oakwood area of Venice Friday night saw the man stab Preston and ordered him to drop the knife and raise his hands, police said. “He refused, advanced toward the officers,” Hall said. Officers Wesley Cleary, 43; James Bowers, 32, and Joseph Priebe, 33, fired a total of 12 rounds from their handguns, he said.
