Comedian-actor Dick Shawn, who died during the weekend after collapsing during a performance, was eulogized by friends, including Milton Berle, Bob Hope and Danny Thomas. “Dick Shawn was a one and only,” Berle said at the Hillside Memorial Park Chapel service. “He was brilliant . . . a genius.” About 300 people attended the private affair Sunday, including director Carl Reiner and actress June Lockhart, who joined family members in paying their final respects. Said Thomas: “He was a fine actor (but) he was so far out people didn’t think of him for movie roles.” Added Hope: “Dick was one of my favorite buffoons.” Shawn collapsed Friday night on stage during a performance at UC San Diego. He lay on the stage for between three and five minutes because the audience thought the collapse was part of the performance.
