A Garden Grove man was arrested early Friday on suspicion of felony drunk driving and manslaughter after police said he accidentally backed a car over a friend, fatally injuring him.
Chang Woo Chun, 20, was taken into custody shortly after the 2 a.m. incident in the parking lot of June’s Bar, 8800 Garden Grove Blvd., police said.
Chun’s friend, Yong Pum Cho, 25, was taken to Fountain Valley Regional Hospital, where he died about 9 a.m., according to Lt. John Urbanowski.
He said Chun and Cho were embroiled in a shoving fight outside the bar with two or three other young men, whom police were still trying to locate late Friday. Officers said the suspects were between 21 and 25 years old.
Chun, an auto body worker, ran to Cho’s car, jumped inside, started the engine and began to move in reverse toward the group of fighting men, police said.
About the same time, Urbanowski said, Cho was knocked to the ground behind his own vehicle by one of the unidentified combatants.
