A moderate earthquake was recorded near Hollister, but it apparently was not strong enough to cause any injuries or damage. Rick McKenzie at the UC Berkeley Seismograph Station said the quake had a preliminary magnitude of 4.0 on the Richter scale and was centered about 6 miles east of Hollister.
