Chris Robinson pitched a five-hitter as Troy High School defeated Savanna, 4-1, Friday in the opening round of the Southern Section 3-A baseball playoffs at Troy. It was the fourth time in four games that Troy has beaten Savanna this season.
The Warriors (19-6) will play Corona, which defeated Canyon, 8-2, Friday, in a second-round game Tuesday.
Savanna (13-11-1) stranded 14 runners, scoring its run in the fourth. Savanna left the bases loaded twice, in the first and third innings, but Robinson ended each inning with a strikeout.
Troy, the Freeway League champion, had eight hits. Mike Case hit a solo home run in the third, his ninth, and David Shirota hit a two-run homer in the fourth.
Robinson (11-2) struck out seven and walked seven.
” He’s the horse we want out there,” said Bruce King, Troy coach. “Robinson is such a competitor and when he has to get it done, he just goes at it.”
Shirota had three hits and scored twice. Eric Roberts added two hits for Savanna. Robert Lee (7-5) took the loss.
