PENN IN HAND

Outtakes was in Vidiots in Santa Monica late on a recent Friday night and found ourself scanning cassettes next to Sean Penn. We knew you’d expect an exclusive.
Q: Was he with Madonna?
A: No, he was with a chubby, baldish male friend.
Q: How’d he look?
A: Trim, neatly groomed, rather handsome, content. He was wearing a nicely tailored dark sport coat and dark slacks.
Q: Did you see Madonna?
A: No!
Q: What was he looking for?
A: We got the impression he and his buddy wanted producer Lewis MacAdams’ documentary, “What Happened to Kerouac?” (amazingly not yet available on cassette). That’s unconfirmed--we eavesdropped lousily.
Q: Then what did he get?
A: They settled for “Kerouac,” the less-acclaimed film that mixes documentary and dramatization. We later found out it was returned in the night slot--late--without the overdue fee!
Q: Are you sure he wasn’t with Madonna?
A: Stop that!
