The Nation : TWA Must Rehire Strikers

Trans World Airlines must fire 463 flight attendants hired before they completed training and rehire an equal number who participated in a 10-week strike last year, a federal appeals court ruled in St. Louis. A three-judge panel of the U.S. 8th Circuit Court of Appeals also ordered that striking flight attendants with seniority be reinstated over less senior attendants who crossed the picket line. During the strike by the Independent Federation of Flight Attendants, which began in March and was called off by the union in May of 1986, TWA hired 1,270 new flight attendants, and 1,280 union flight attendants crossed picket lines.
