A 16-month-old Los Angeles boy died at UCLA Medical Center nearly a week after he was placed on the “urgent-need” list for a donor liver. Medical center staff members said Marcus Serna died of acute liver failure and swelling of the brain. A spokesman said he did not know whether a donor liver had been found, but doctors said earlier that the child may not have been well enough to undergo the operation.
