The body of a man who leaped from the Coronado Bridge a week ago was recovered Sunday by the Coast Guard in San Diego Bay, authorities reported.
San Diego Harbor Police Officer Robert Mickschl said the body of James D. Collier, 22, of San Diego, was found floating face-down by Coast Guardsman Jonathan Brown at 7:45 a.m. The body was just offshore of the pier at the Coast Guard air station at 2700 N. Harbor Drive. Brown dived in and towed it ashore.
Mickschl said Collier jumped from the bridge at 10:50 p.m. on May 24 despite efforts by Coronado police officers, who had stopped after seeing him sitting on the bridge railing.
Coroner’s Deputy George Dickason said an autopsy will be conducted today.
