We are sick at heart as we watch wealthy Americans on television telling a congressional investigating committee how they gave hundreds of thousands, even millions of dollars to kill people they had never met in a country they had probably never visited, all because of a calculated appeal to their fears.
Our organization is presently engaged in attempting to raise a large sum of money to send a well known local high school jazz band to the Soviet Union this summer. So far we have not been successful in reaching our financial goals. Of course, we do not have the assistance of members of the National Security Council.
There is a bitter irony to the fact that a project promoting international understanding goes begging, while a project that promotes death and destruction has no trouble finding its big donors.
