Sri Lanka will oppose India’s plan to send a flotilla of vessels carrying relief supplies to the Jaffna Peninsula, where Sri Lankan troops are waging an offensive against Tamil separatists, a senior official said in Colombo, Sri Lanka’s capital. The official said that Colombo considers India’s plan to send about 20 small, unarmed vessels carrying food, fuel and medicine “a clear infringement of our sovereignty that we will have to oppose.” The decision is expected to aggravate already chilly relations between India and Sri Lanka.
