Abrams’ Testimony Likely to Be Heated

WASHINGTON — As assistant secretary of state for inter-American affairs, Elliott Abrams relishes his role as the Reagan Administration’s point man on Central America.

Abrams’ testimony today before the House and Senate committees investigating the Iran- contra affair is likely to yield a heated session as lawmakers question him about the discrepancies between his statements and those of others who were involved in the region during the last few years.

Specifically, Abrams is certain to be challenged on his claims that he had little knowledge and no involvement in secret Administration support of the Nicaraguan rebels.
