El Camino Real Brings Streak to Semifinals

El Camino Real High puts its 72-game winning streak on the line today against San Pedro in the City Section 4-A softball semifinals at South Gate Park. Sylmar plays Banning in the other semifinal game at South Gate Park. Both games begin at 2:30 p.m.
El Camino Real (17-0), the four-time City champion, is expected to pitch Jodi Iwafuchi, who is 13-0 since she replaced Beth Silverman, who left the team at midseason.
Sylmar (12-4), the North-Valley League champion, is expected to pitch Deanna Monroy (11-3). Sylmar Coach Jeff Tumin said he hopes his team plays better defense than the five-error display the Spartans turned in last week in a 5-1 quarterfinal win over Narbonne.
