Western Europeans believe that Soviet leader Mikhail S. Gorbachev does more for peace and disarmament than President Reagan, according to a nine-country opinion poll sponsored by the Swedish daily newspaper Dagens Nyheter. Asked which superpower was working hardest to stop the arms race, 32% said the Soviet Union and 11% said the United States, while 44% said both superpowers were equally active in disarmament matters. Support for Moscow was strongest in Greece and Italy.
