National Technical Reports Profit After Year-Ago Loss

National Technical Systems said it earned $272,000, or 7 cents a share, in the first quarter ended April 30 compared to a loss of $152,000, or 4 cents a share, a year earlier.
Revenue for the Calabasas-based engineering services company rose 28% to $5.9 million from $4.6 million a year earlier.
The quarterly results include tax benefits of $113,000, or 3 cents a share. In the year-earlier quarter, National Technical System’s results included a $158,000 charge for discontinuing its products and soil analysis and research division.
