The Los Angeles Philharmonic was among the 153 orchestras and ensembles receiving grants totaling more than $8 million from the National Endowment for the Arts. The Philharmonic received $283,000 from the federal arts funding organization, to help cover the costs of the orchestra’s 26-week winter season, a series of free in-school concerts and a scheduled Tchaikovsky Festival at the Wiltern Theatre. Major orchestras in Boston, Cleveland, Chicago, Philadelphia, New York and St. Louis also received $283,000 each. The financially strapped New Orleans Philharmonic received $90,000, while the recently reorganized San Diego Symphony received nothing.
