Mike Tully established a personal best pole vault mark of 19 feet 1 1/2 inches Sunday in an Olympic development meet at UC Irvine.
It was a tuneup meet for Tully in preparation for The Athletics Congress competition June 23-27 at San Jose. That meet qualifies athletes for the World Championships Aug. 29-Sept. 6 in Rome.
Hurdler Andre Phillips, however, may miss the TAC meet. He had to pull up before the fifth hurdle in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles because of a stress fracture in his right shin. Phillips, ranked No. 1 in the world the last two years, said he will confer with his coach, Bob Kersee, to determine whether it’s advisable to compete in the TAC meet.
