Thelma Welch of Van Nuys and Vi Carll of Burbank have been honored by the American Cancer Society’s San Fernando Valley Unit for their work as volunteer drivers. Both participate in a program that incorporates more than 60 volunteers who provide transportation for cancer patients to and from medical treatment. Welch coordinates the East Valley area, Carll the West Valley. For information on the program, call 818-989-5555.
Joe and Katherine Jackson, longtime residents of the San Fernando Valley and parents of singer Michael Jackson, will be honored at the San Fernando Valley Fair Housing Council’s annual dinner and dance Thursday at the Airtel Plaza Hotel. Others to be honored include Ken Kelly of Van Nuys, the Rumford Fair Housing Award; Bob Adamson of Woodland Hills, the Rafer Johnson Fair Play Award, and June Stepansky of Woodland Hills, the Volunteer of the Year Award. Assemblyman Richard Katz (D-Sepulveda) will be master of ceremonies. Tickets are $50 a person, and can be purchased by calling 818-781-6940.
