The network declined to disclose terms of the deal, but Time spokesman Michael Luftman said the price was about $50 million. The transaction leaves Gulf & Western Inc. and MCA Inc., which each previously held one-third interests in the network, as joint owners, each with a 50% interest in the company. The USA Network reaches about 39 million homes on 8,500 cable systems. It is the nation’s third-largest advertiser-supported cable network behind Turner Broadcasting System Inc.’s Cable News Network and Capital Cities-ABC Inc.’s ESPN. USA Network offers a range of programming, including children’s entertainment, game shows, situation comedies and sports events.
