Religion Briefs : Donor Puts Up Bail for Defrocked Pastors

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Two defrocked Lutheran pastors, released from jail after an anonymous donor posted their combined $7,000 bail, are scheduled for trial July 20 on charges of trespass and assault.
The charges stemmed from actions of D. Douglas Roth, 35, of Clairton, Pa., and Daniel N. Solberg, 36, of Allison, Pa., at the merging convention of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America on May 2.
They had been defrocked for their tactics as members of Denominational Ministry Strategy, a Pittsburgh-area group that accuses Pennsylvania’s steel industry and major banks of greed and causing widespread unemployment.
