What kind of rock ‘n’ roll have the South Korean students been listening to while they’re rioting against the government the past few weeks?
Not the Jefferson Airplane. RCA Records has just received a letter from Seoul Records--its licensed South Korean subsidiary--”regrettably” informing RCA that the Korean government has banned seven songs from the newly released Jefferson Airplane compilation, “2400 Market Street.”
The censored songs include such U.S. hits as “White Rabbit,” “Volunteers,” “Plastic Fantastic Lover” and “We Can Be Together.”
RCA execs, who speculate that the ban derives from political and drug references in the lyrics, say they plan to release a version of the collection with offending material expurgated.
