Firestone Tire & Rubber Co. of Akron, Ohio, named Albert E. Suter, 51, president and chief operating officer. Suter is assuming titles previously held by Firestone Chairman and Chief Executive John J. Nevin, who acted as president and chief operating officer following the retirement of Leon R. Brodeur in 1985. Suter will be responsible for the firm’s world tire, sales and service and diversified products operations. He previously was vice chairman and a director of Emerson Electric Co. of St. Louis.
